‘Choosing our future’ – Science Week 2020

Science Week is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and with this momentous milestone comes a jam-packed programme of hundreds of virtual events.

Science Week, supported by the Science Foundation Ireland, takes place from 8th to 15th November and each day is full of interactive workshops, talks and quizzes.

‘Choosing our future’ is the theme of this year’s event with the focus on how science can help us all to make positive choices which will impact the environment, our health and our quality of life.

“Now, more than ever, we have turned to the information that science provides to guide our decisions,” say event organisers as they highlight climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic as two of the biggest issues facing society.

Throughout Science Week there will be a variety of ways for you to get involved through events, interviews, social media and much more.

Below, we’ve outlined just a taste of what’s on offer during Science Week 2020:

On Thursday, 12th November, the Irish Air Corps will be presenting a series of short videos aimed at introducing students to the various scientific elements involved in military aviation.

‘Wonderstruck – Table Top Science’, taking place on Friday, 13th November, explores where we get energy from and what it can be used for. Expect an event full of fire and colour as we examine how we can transform one type of energy into another.

Another unmissable event taking place on Friday, 13th November is ‘Fooling Your Senses’ a highly interactive session which investigates the science out bodies use to explore.
