Record 35 IMRO Award nominations for BCFE alumni

Radio alumni from Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BCFE) have been shortlisted for a record breaking 35 nominations at the IMRO Radio Industry Awards, set to take place online next Friday, October 2nd.

Radio legend Dermot Whelan, alongside some of broadcastings best, will be streaming the event live, recognising this year’s brightest stars in Irish radio.

‘Ballier Heads’, or BCFE past-students as they’re otherwise known, such as Mairéad Ronan, Maria Devereaux and David Duke have been shortlisted in categories such as Music and Entertainment Presenter of the Year, Speech Broadcaster of the Year and Radio Moment of the Year.

Last year saw Ballyfermot receive 14 nominations and take home eight awards as their graduates were crowed winners. This year BCFE have more than doubled their nominations with many ex-radio students being shortlisted for up to three, four and even five different awards!

The competition is fierce as many categories have up to four BCFE graduates competing for the same award but BCFE say: “the comradery, friendship and ‘Ballier Heads’ spirit will win out on the night!”

“We are really thrilled to have played a part in the process, and are keen to remind all nominees that the box with cassettes, reel to reels, and MiniDiscs is still at the back of the radio classroom containing all of your early work!” says the college.

Many of those shortlisted progressed through the college’s media wing, beginning with the foundation Media & Broadcasting course (Level 5) and then the Radio Programming & Production Diploma (Level 6). Upon completion, students can apply to stay in BCFE to complete a final year DCU Honours Degree in Media Production Management or bin their careers ready to take to the airwaves.

We are wishing every one of the nominees success on the night and look forward to tuning in.
